Online learning and teaching marketplace Udemy (San Francisco) in February said its long-time partner in Japan, Benesse Holdings, agreed to invest $50 million in Udemy with a valuation of $2 billion. The funding round follows a year of growth for Udemy, which marked its 10-year anniversary in January with more than $350 million in lifetime payments to instructors working through the global platform. The company plans to expand its San Francisco headquarters as well as grow its offices in Denver; Dublin, Ireland; Gurgaon, India; Sao Paulo, Brazil; and Ankara, Turkey.

Higher education learning platform provider Top Hat (Toronto, ON) in February raised $55 million in Series D equity and debt financing in a round led by Georgian Partners and Inovia capital and supported by the rest of Top Hat’s existing equity investors. The funding enables the company to scale partnerships with traditional publishers to create more digital solutions.
