Platform as-as-service provider Certica Solutions (Wakefield, MA) in April acquired TE21 (Charleston, SC), the provider of the CASE Benchmark Assessments. The acquisition expands Certica’s K-12 formative assessment and analytic offerings to include predictive benchmark assessments. The TE21 CASE Benchmarks are available for math, English language arts, science and social studies. The CASE Benchmarks, used by more than 250 districts across the southeast, are expected to expand, leveraging Certica’s district presence nationwide. TE21’s assessment suite includes: the CASE Item Bank, more than 80,000 summative-quality test items, which complements Certica’s existing item banks and brings the combined number of items available to more than 220,000; enCASE, and assessment platform for creating and administering classroom assessments; and CASE College & Career Ready Assessment, which mirrors the ACT college admissions test.

Laureate Education (Baltimore) in April continued to simplify its portfolio and streamline its operations around fewer geographical areas with an agreement to sell Centro Universitário do Norte (UniNorte), a traditional higher education institution in Manaus, Brazil, to higher education program development and management firm Ser Educacional (Brazil) in a transaction valued at R$ 194.8 million (or about $49.9 million), including the assumption of net debt in the amount of R$ 9.8 million (or $2.5 million). Completion of the deal is expected following a review by the Administrative Council for Economic Defense.

Barnes & Noble Education (Basking Ridge, NJ) and W. W. Norton & Co. (New York) in April expanded their relationship by making Norton’s digital courseware and ebooks available through inclusive access models offered on campuses served by BNED.

Microsoft Education (Redmond, WA) in April 2019 teamed up with Open Up Resources (Cupertino, CA) to make Open Up Resources K-5 English language arts curriculum free offering, written by EL Education, available through its OneNote Class Notebooks.
