For-profit career college provider American Public Education (Charles Town, WV) in June named Steve Somers senior vice president of strategy and corporate development and Amy Manning senior vice president of human resources. Prior to joining APEI, Somers served for more than five years as vice president of corporate development at Kaplan (New York) and earlier as vice president of corporate development, investor relations and treasury at Rosetta Stone (Herndon, VA). Manning most recently was vice president human resources at Cisco Systems.

Connected Nation (Bowling Green, KY), which fosters the expansion of technology in schools, in June named Emily Jordan vice president of its new Connect K-12 initiative, which aims to improve school connectivity nationally. Jordan will, among other things, lead the launch of a new online tool later this year that will provide free school broadband data and pricing intelligence that school districts and state leaders can use to upgrade connections to meet or exceed the FCC’s 1 megabit per second (Mbps) per student bandwidth goal. Jordan most recently served as director of operations for the bipartisan Lincoln Policy Group in Washington, D.C.

WW Norton (New York) in June named Michael Wright to head Norton’s College Department, succeeding Roby Harrington, who continues as vice chairman of the employee-owned company. Wright has served as director of college sales.
